Y4: I am Lenny Brown

by Dan Freedman

Both Year 4 classes have been eagerly reading ‘I am Lenny Brown’ before their visit from the author Dan Freedman.

Lenny is a child who faces many challenges and obstacles but always remembers the positive and wise words from a very fond teacher. Lenny understands and accepts he’s different but never shies away from that. He shines as bright as anyone else and learns to love his differences.

Faith: “I’m so glad there is no one like Cameron in our school. He picks on Lenny for being different and that’s really not kind. I wanted to be able to tell Lenny so many times during the story that it’s okay to be different. It would be so boring if we lived in a world where everyone was the same.”

Saad: “We have read lots of books in DEAR time about children from different faiths, different backgrounds and who are different from one another. I’ve really enjoyed these different, diverse books. I can’t wait for the next one.”

Shane: “I was so happy that Lenny enjoyed playing football with his dog because I knew if he could play football he would make lots of friends.”

Ramilliah: “When DEAR time finishes I feel so sad because just want to listen to more to see what happens next.”
